Kitten Food

Moving to a new home is already a big change for a kitten. New people, new rooms, new sounds. Keeping the food the same for the first days removes one more change from that list, so we recommend avoiding sudden switches.

Not every food below is right for every kitten. Age, breed, and what your kitten is used to all matter. If you do plan a change later, transition gradually and talk with your veterinarian.

Before changing your kitten's food, ask us what your kitten is currently eating. Ask us

Litter

Kittens learn the litter box by texture and smell. Keeping the same type of litter for the first days can make the transition to a new home easier, because the box feels familiar from day one.

If you want to switch later, do it gradually by mixing the new litter into the old one over several days.

Ask us which litter your kitten is used to before making an immediate change. Ask us

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need before bringing my kitten home?

Have the basics ready before arrival day: the same food your kitten is eating now, food and water bowls, litter and a litter box with a scoop, a carrier, a quiet sleeping area, a scratching surface, a few age-appropriate toys, and basic grooming supplies. Kitten-proof the room your kitten will start in by securing cords, small objects and anything fragile.

Should I change my kitten's food when they arrive?

We recommend not changing food right away. The move is already a big adjustment, so keeping meals familiar helps. If you want to switch later, do it gradually and check with your veterinarian.

What food is my kitten currently eating?

Just ask us. We will tell you exactly what your kitten is eating so you can have the same food ready at home. Contact us or reply to the message that brought you to this page.

What type of litter should I use?

The best starting point is the same type your kitten already uses. After that, clumping clay, plant-based and pellet litters all work for many households. Unscented options are a common choice for kittens.

Should I change my kitten's litter immediately?

No. A familiar litter helps your kitten find and use the box from the first day. If you want a different litter, mix it in gradually over several days.

What other supplies should I have ready?

A carrier for the trip home and vet visits, a scratching post or pad, a cozy bed, safe toys, and a brush suited to your kitten’s coat. We will add our recommendations for these categories to this page over time.

Are these products sold by Luxury Only Kittens?

No. Luxury Only Kittens does not sell these products. Purchases are made directly through third-party retailers such as Amazon, which handle pricing, shipping and returns.
